Student in Fifth on Final Day of EPT

The only poker player left on Saturday in the European Poker Tour for Saturday’s final is too young to be playing in the United States. Jeff Williams, a resident of Dunwoody Georgia where he attends university at the University of Georgia, is 19 years old. He went into the final eight in third place, above almost 300 players who entered the tournament on Wednesday. Williams is guaranteed at least $101,000 (85,000 Euros) for eighth place; first prize is more than $1 million (900,000 Euros). He outlasted three World Series of Poker world champions, including American Greg Raymer and last year's winner, Joe Hachem of Australia at the tournament which is being held in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Williams got into the tournament by winning a $40 online poker tournament last month on PokerStars.com. His win gave him the $11,914 entry fee to the tournament by way of a second, $650 online tournament that saw the top nine finishers given a seat at the EPT Grand Final.  If the story sounds familiar, you might have been following the early career of 2003 World Series of Poker main event champion Chris Moneymaker, who also got a seat to the tournament that made his name on an online tournament through PokerStars.
Williams has said that he is waiting to come of age so he can enter big events in the United States. The parallels in the career of Chris Moneymaker are also not lost on the young player.
