Poker Television Meets Reality TV on Fox
A new reality show is set to hit the airwaves, courtesy of Bogdog.Net and
the irrepressible Fox network. Bogdog.net founder and chief executive
officer Calvin Ayre came up with the concept and will be the host of the
show that is trying to find poker’s next professional star. The six episodes
of the show will feature established poker stars as well as other
celebrities and will be filmed in Costa Rica this weekend at the Bogdog
commercial compound. The episodes will be airing on Saturdays from 11 pm to
2am EST on the Fox Sports network beginning on April 15.
40 individuals are slated to participate in the show, including celebrities,
poker professionals and Bogdog.net poker players. The grand prize for the
event is $500,000, and each episode will feature one game of poker. Winners
of the individual game will get $50,000 and a shot at the final table.
Celebrities booked for the event include “Boston Rob” Mariano (Amazing Race,
Survivor), Josh Malina from The West Wing, and Sex in the City’s Willie
Garson. Extra correspondent Jon Kelley wil cover the event, which will also
see Hollywood hotties Kelly Hu (Scorpion King), Michelle Merkin (Foody Call)
and comedian Cheryl Hines fro Curb your enthusiasm. Music stars Wila Ford
and Mitch Allan, form the band SR-71, will also take part, as well as
Ultimate Fighting Champion Chuck Liddell and fellow athlete surfer Jon Rose.
Among the poker players will be Jennifer Tilly, who apparently is more poker
player than actress now, as she skipped Sunday night’s Oscars for the first
time in order to attend events at NBC’s Ntional Heads-Up Championships.
Tilly’s boyfriend Phil “Unabomber” Laak will also be present representing
the established poker stars, as well as Team Bogdog “Rat Pack” David
Williams and Evelyn Ng, Josh Arieh, Jean Gluck, Michael Mizrachi, Lily
Mizrachi, Humberto Brenes and Erik Lindgren.
The show will feature 20 poker hopefuls who won the trip through the Bogdog
poker room. The show is entitled “Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker” and will
showcase games, Costa Rican excursions, the billion dollar lifestyle of the
show’s host, and Bogdog Music artists. It will be hosted by 2003 Miss World
Canada and Bogdog musical artist Nazanin.
This is the second major show for Bogdog Entertainment Group, on the heels
of last year’s “Bogdog salutes the troops”.
