Irish Poker Tournament Over Easter
Over the Easter weekend (April 14th to 17th) a major Irish poker tournament
is scheduled to be held in the Jury’s Hotel in Belfast, Ireland. The
tournament is the 1,000,000 pound Guaranteed Paddy Power Poker Irish Openm
and the final table of the tournament will be featured live on Sky Sports 2
at 9:30pm Easter Monday (April 17th).
The tournament is being presented by the highly respected Liam Flood, who
says that “With the help of my good friends at the Merrion Casino Club and
paddypowerpoker.com we plan to host the biggest and the best poker
tournament ever held in Ireland and, over the coming years, we will ensure
that the Irish Open becomes one of the most exciting spectacles in world
poker.”
There were 172 entrants in last year’s Irish Open, including World Series of
Poker Main Event 1999 winner Noel Furlong, Andy Black, Marty Wilson, Roy
“the Boy” Brindley, Donnacha O’Dea, Padraig Parkinson, Scott Gray, Willie
Tann, Simon Trumper, and Dave Colcough. The players battled it out at the
tables before United Kingdom resident “Burnley” John Falconer took the
146,000 pound first prize and the winner’s trophy, defeating Irishmen Alan
Betson, Tony Cooney and Rory Liffey.
All of these professionals and many more are expected to return to this
year’s tournament, along with many young players and grizzled veterans and
some new faces brought in by qualifying on the Paddy Power Poker online
rooms. Not only willl qualifiers gain entry into the tournament, but the
online player who also places the best in the tournament will also receive a
further prize of worth $12,500-an entry into the World Series of Poker Main
Event in Las Vegas this summer. What a great incentive to join the fun of
the tournament. Most qualifiers of online games have nothing to show after
getting ousted in the first few rounds.
There are also supporting events scheduled for the Paddy Power tournament,
with a limit of 300 players apiece. The Main Event is limited to 44
entrants. Online players at paddypowerpoker.com have a host of satellites
and super satellites to choose from in order to begin their quest for the
Irish open, and for one lucky and talented player a seat at the 2006 World
Series of Poker.
