Forrest Defeats Ferguson in the NHUPC

The National Heads-Up Poker Championships came to a close on Monday, and in the end it was Ted Forrest that walked away with the title and the $500,000 first place cash prize.
Ted Forrest and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson actually officially wrapped up the best of three final match early on Tuesday morning.

This is the second year in a row that Ferguson has come in second in the tournament, after being defeated last year by “Poker Brat” Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth was knocked out of the tournament in the first round by David “Chips” Reese, who was in turn eliminated by Ferguson. Ferguson is a holder of a Ph.D in computer science from UCLA, but that is no guarantee of a National Heads-Up Poker Championship, even on the second run.

Nevertheless, Ferguson says he is quite happy with his finish; “It really isn’t that much pain, I would have absolutely loved, loved to win this. Its a very, very important championship in my opinion. But you can’t do it every year, and I’m really proud of finishing second two years in a row. That’s way harder than wining it once.”

Forrest is the winner of five World Series of Poker bracelets, who practices his game in cash games in Las Vegas. He defeated five other professional in the National Heads-Up one-on-one bracket style event to get to the last table.

Ferguson is known as “Jesus” (NOT the Spanish pronunciation) because of his long brown hair and beard. He called and all-in bet from Forrest before the flop, with a jack of diamond and queen of clubs in the last hand. Forrest held a kin of clubs and a seven of diamonds, but had a 5-1 chip lead to support his bet.
