Extreme Poker II
How do you make an extremely popular game even more popular? Simply by
adding EXTREME in the title. Extreme Poker title holder Juha Helppi will be
defending the title on a frozen wasteland in March. The Extreme Player won
the title by winning the first underwater poker game ever held, at the
bottom of the ocean off of St. Kitts.
Helppi will be up against three InterPoker.com qualifiers and as champ, he
got to choose the venue. He chose an ice castle in his native land of
Finland. The Arctic Kemi Snow Castle in Kemi, Finland, is a big tourist draw
and the poker game should make it bigger.
"The snow castle is very beautiful and very cold — just like the city where
I grew up. I will be right at home in the castle and aim to take advantage
of home field advantage in every way possible," Helppi said.
Helppi will also be facing InterPoker.com team members Rob Varkonyi and Pete
"The Beat" Giordano. The temperatures will be well below freezing, and the
tourney is operated under special rules. When a player takes a major hit on
his or her chip stack, they can buy back their chips in exchange for a piece
of clothing. Players leave the competition when they run out of chips or
nonessential clothing or are forced to leave after succumbing to the cold.
Medical personnel will be present at all times to monitor the health of all
participants.
The online qualifier will take place Sunday, March 12, to decide who will be
flown to Finland to sit in the freezing temperatures and battle their
countryman.
