WPT Poker Boot Camp is here
Poker players who love the game and who are looking for even more ways to
hone their talents in the search for the big pots can now sign up for the
World Poker Tour Poker Boot Camp, held over various weekends at the Borgata
Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. The venture was started about a year
and a half ago by Ron Rubens, co-founder of the boot camp. He played poker
on the side while running an information-technology boot camp, ad decided to
combine the two. The weekend of February 25 saw the premier of the event in
Atlantic City, with another session catering to women to be held next month.
The boot camp is divided into session, for lectures and tournament play. The
instructors have hundreds of hours of videotape from the WPT, and use the
films to illustrate their points. Players learn how to make tournament
decisions based on the cards they hold, the number of chips in their
possession, their opposition at the table, the way that opposition has been
playing, their position at the table and the amount of money in the pot.
One of the prizes handed out to students participating in the first
tournament of Saturday night was a free entry into a $1,000 World Poker Tour
tournament to be held at the Borgata. Students pay $1500 each for the
intense two day course. There are no cash prizes, but participants are
willing to hedge their bets on future earnings using the skills they learn.
