Foxwoods Casino Revamps Poker Room
The Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut has a long history as one of
the finest casinos on the east coast. It is also billed as the largest
casino in the world, and is the first Charter Member of the World Poker
Tour. Foxwoods is now undergoing an expansion of its poker room that is
slated for completion in late March, after which it will bear the World
Poker Tour name.
“It’s a very exciting landmark for the World Poker Tour,” stated Steve
Lipscomb, founder and Chief Executive Officer of WPT Inc. “This is the point
when our brand truly moves into the casinos in a major way. We’ve licensed
our name to slot machines and gaming tables, and this is the next
significant step. The evolution of the WPT brand at the casino level, where
poker players will experience the WPT excitement firsthand in an environment
that evokes the cool, classy, charismatic character of the show. We applaud
our partners at Foxwoods for continuing to expand the benefits of our mutual
relationship.”
The improvements to the poker room will be significant, and it is expected
that they will draw many more players to the casino as well. The new room
will expand the number of tables in the poker room from 76 to 114. That is a
capacity expansion of more than 40%. This will allow the casino to offer
more tournament offerings, which in turn will up the prize packages for all
tournaments held there. It also solidifies Foxwoods as one of the largest
and most prestigious poker rooms in the country and the only venue for poker
in New England. New poker technology will also add to the experience,
including the use of LED table components, automatic card shufflers and a
state-of-the-art seating system. Like most casinos in the 21st century, the
updated poker room will be smoke free, and will also offer a 100 seat
restaurant attached to the poker area.
“This is a significant step for poker and further proof that WPT and
Foxwoods are a formidable team,” said Kathy Raymond, Director of Poker
Operations at Foxwoods. “We continually strive to lead the way when it comes
to poker, and this new expanded state-or-the-art room will give our players
a truly memorable experience.”
The new poker room will get its first test when the World Poker Tour makes
its second stop in New England in April, at the Foxwoods Poker Classic.
