Florida Man Goes To France
Danny Ticer, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida and owner of Danco
furniture, go t to upgrade his poker environment after winning a spot
frompokerstars.com to play poker on the French Open European Poker Tour in
Deauville, France. It’s a long way from Ticer’s practice grounds in smoky
garages or even in front of his modem at home on a quiet night.
While on the Tour, Ticer had the opportunity to meet some of the stars of
poker, those who have taken the big stacks and made a living from playing
the game. World Series of Poker 2004 champion Greg Raymer was also on the
tour. Ticer said that while he didn’t win any money on the tour, the chance
to learn skills from players like Raymer was valuable in itself. Ticer did
finish in the top 50, a good placement for an online player who said his win
was nothing special, just “one of those things”.
Ticer also adds that poker is not just a game of chance, that it takes skill
to play and more to do well. The proof is in the chips, which can pile up as
high as a dream every once in a while. No matter how many chips they’ve had
in their pockets at one time or another, though, Ticer said that all the
stars at the tournament were very friendly. Ticer also saw the sights in
France while he wasn’t engaged at a table, and says that the countryside was
just like on television, with vineyards and zig-zagging country roads.
Ticer plans to continue playing poker on line back home in Florida, and
hopes to win a trip to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He has
already won two trips to go play in Vegas, so it is a safe bet that Ticer’s
poker skills are just as good as his luck.
