Who says it's bad luck to break a leg?

Every once in a while what can seem like a smackdown can turn into a blessing in disguise. Such was the case for Roberto Romanello, who took up poker while recuperating from a sports injury.
Romanello is 29 years old, and hails from Gorseinon. After breaking a leg playing soccer, Romanello found himself sitting at home with a lot of time on his hands, laid up at home waiting for a broken femur and tibia to repair themselves.

Tired of daytime television, he turned to the internet to play a couple of hands of poker. Romanello was already a keen poker player, although he had never played online. He ended up winning a competition that will see him traveling to America to go head to head with some of the world’s best card players.

Romanello says that he has been playing poker for the last year, though never approaching the game on the net. He entered a 50 competition and won’t the first prize, which was entry into a 750 competition. The first prize in that next competition was a trip worth 15,500 pounds to play in a poker tournament anywhere in the world with a top prize of one million pounds.

Romanello managed to win the contest even though he was up against some of the best players in the world. He is now preparing to fly out in May to the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas with his brother Antoni to play for that jackpot.  Romanello believes that the time to practice has improved his game 100%, but all things considered, says he would rather have his health than the cash.
