Bad Boys of Poker Reunite!
“Man, you talk more than me, and that is pretty hard to do!”
Those were the words of Mike Matusow to Tony G in the set to air World Poker
Tour “Bad Boys of Poker 2”, shot at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles on
Saturday night. Tony G was dressed in a ceremonial kimono, probably bought
on his recent trip to Japan. By far the most talkative and active player at
a table that included Phil Hellmuth, Men the Master, Gus Hansen, and Jean
Robert Belande, Tony came ready to rankle.
The game was played for pride and an entry into the WPT Chamionship at
Bellagio, worth $25,000. The game took approximately three hours, a quick
match in which the players started out with 250,000, blinds at 3,000/6,000.
The talk was constant, with most of it directed at Hellmuth. After two
hours, it began to show. The normally effusive Belande ws
uncharacteristically quiet, while Hansen barely made a sound. It was almost
all Matusow and Tony G, with a few quick hits from Men who timed his thrusts
perfectly. Conserving words didn’t help to conserve the chips, though, as
Gus Hansen was the first man out, putting his last 5,000 chip in the small
blind and being eliminated. He was live the hand before, with about 80,000
in the pot and one 5,000 chip left and folded. Maybe the mind games for the
Big One have already begun.
Tony G won a coin flip against Men the Master to knock him out, with the G
man’s Queens beating Men’s AK. The next out was Jean Robert Belande, who had
provided a few rallies against Tony G that were well placed and came out
better than Tony’s rejoinders. The last laugh was Tony’s though, as he put
Belande out with the best hand of the night. On a flop of 8,9,10 Belande bet
out and was raised by Tony. Belande countered, and Tony put Bobby all-in.
Belande was holding the second nuts of Jack Seven, and Toney showed the nuts
with Queen Jack.
Two-thirds of the chips were in playand Tony G was positioned to take
control. Hellmuth tried to stop him with all-in with Queen 5, but was called
by Matusow with Queen Ten.
At heads up time, Tony pushed Mike around until the last hand. The game was
won in fine style, but to find out the conclusion you’ll have to watch the
show. Trust us, it is great TV that is worth it.
